If you’re bright, there’s a good chance your ADHD was overlooked or misunderstood during your school years. For a long time, people believed that if you were doing well academically or professionally, you couldn’t have ADHD—and unfortunately, many still believe this today.
This misconception has held back so many talented people. You may be one of them. Many highly intelligent individuals with ADHD reach a point where, despite their ability and effort, they feel stuck—unable to move forward in school or their career. We now know that many students fall into the category of “2e” or Twice Exceptional (High IQ + ADHD).
Maybe you were a strong student in high school, relying on intelligence and determination to succeed. Then college came, and things became harder to manage. You might have pushed through with late nights and intense effort, only to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or distracted by everything competing for your attention.
Or perhaps you did well in college and were accepted into graduate or professional school—but things became more difficult later. Some students reach the dissertation stage and feel completely stuck. Others complete medical or law school but struggle to pass their boards or bar exam.
What’s especially frustrating is that many bright students in these situations are still not recognized as having ADHD.
I understand this personally. I was one of those students—undiagnosed, but trying to figure out what I needed. I eventually completed my dissertation by finding the right kind of structure: working within an established research setting, with clear direction and support from my advisor. Before that, I felt lost. One advisor suggested I simply browse research articles until something interested me—but without structure, that approach felt overwhelming and unproductive.
I was fortunate to find what worked for me, but many 2e students and professionals don’t get that support in time. Over the years, I’ve worked with many bright, capable adults who felt frustrated by unfinished degrees, stalled careers, or unexplained struggles.
If any part of this resonates with you, you may be a twice exceptional (2e) student or professional. And most importantly—there is nothing “wrong” with you. You simply haven’t yet had the right support or strategies.
There is a way forward!
With the right guidance, structure, and understanding, you can move past the obstacles that have held you back and fully realize your potential.
If you’re ready, I’d love to work with you to help you achieve your goals.
